People are not Disabled,
the environment is.
WHO ARE WE?

reAble is a student-led project which aims to sensitize all typically abled masses in the field of education about the Disabled Community to create an accepting, inclusive, and disability-friendly environment.  Our motive for this project stems from the modern definition of disability. The definition states that disability is when someone tries to interact with an object or infrastructure but cannot carry out its intended task. Keeping this in mind, we started reAble to create a safe space for all in educational institutes.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We realised that by changing the mindsets of teachers and students, we can create a large impact factor for the next generation, as these are the people who will shape the world.

To create awareness we conduct Workshops, Courses and  Awareness campaigns. These give students and teachers insights into the lives of disabled people and make them more empathetic. We also create easy to understand informative modules to spread awareness.

OUR BELIEF

Most people consider disability to be an physical, biological, or pathological impairment and it is considered as a problem in need of fixing, rather than a facet of identity.

We believe in the social model of disability which recognizes that structural inequities often cause or contribute to disability. The “social model” of disability considers the “problem” to be society and the barriers – whether physical or attitudinal – instead of the disabilities.

To change the disability of the environment we want to address its root cause, lack of awareness in the formative places- schools. It is because of the lack of sensitivity and awareness as well as due to the barriers that disabled students are unable to complete their education and our hence stuck in a never ending cycle.
